The Black Gold Tartan was created in 2000 by Andy Grieve, a North Sea oilman and founder of TOP Management, for his wedding in September 2000.  Since its launch at that time, the tartan has generated tremendous interest and has been regarded as an exceptional example of modern and vibrant creativity in the passionate tradition of tartan.  Oil has brought wealth to Scotland which is supporting this tradition and heritage.  Andy said:

“From a good and solid rural upbringing in the North East of Scotland, all my working life has been spent in the oil industry.  Black Gold is just a small token of recognition and appreciation for how oil has improved the lives of so many in Scotland”

The tartan symbolises the sea and the sky in its rich blue with white for their waves and clouds.  It captures the complexity of oil and gas flowing through formation, wellbores and pipelines by multiple and single black and gold vertical and horizontal stripes.  Finally it acknowledges land and, most importantly, the protection of our precious environment in its green.
